In art, negative space is the space around and between objects. Artists think about negative space when they design a picture.
Look at this picture of a chair. The parts of the chair take up positive space. The space between the legs and the slats, and all the space around it, is negative space.
What shapes do you see in the negative space area? Make a drawing of just the negative spaces around the parts of the chair.
Now, find an object in your home that has negative space. Draw the object starting with the negative shapes first. Then draw the positive shapes next.
