Studio in a School NYC is proud to partner with Christie’s in presenting Explore, Express, Excite! a virtual exhibition of 45 exceptional artworks created by elementary school students (grades 3K – 5th) participating in Studio in a School’s visual arts education programs. The works on view represent the artistic achievements of children from all five boroughs of New York City as they engage in a wide range of media including drawing, painting, printmaking, collage, and sculpture.
The title Explore, Express, Excite! encapsulates Studio’s approach to the creative process. Studio’s Artist Instructors begin each unit of study by introducing an artistic medium and encouraging students to explore its unique material characteristics. Through open-ended exploration, children discover the expressive capacities that each medium holds and begin using them to visually interpret the people, places, and things that make up their lives. The act of making, and the resulting artwork, generate excitement for the artist and viewer alike.
These artworks illustrate the learning and creative thinking core to Studio’s work. Not only does this exhibition celebrate the artworks on view, but it also recognizes the hard work, growth, and creativity of every child who participates in Studio’s programs.
