Development Manager

The Development Manager is a full-time exempt position reporting to the Director of Development. The Development Manager provides essential administrative, clerical, and logistical support for Studio’s fundraising in all areas, including institutional grants, individual gifts, and special events. The Development Manager works closely with the Marketing and Communications Associate, Marketing and Communications Manager, Finance and Program staff, and knows the history, programs, finances, and funding of Studio as an articulate advocate for its mission and programs. Playing a key role on a small and dedicated team, the successful Development Manager gains invaluable hands-on experience in all facets of nonprofit fundraising while having a real impact on the day-to-day and long-term operations of NYC’s premiere visual arts education organization.

About Studio in a School Association

Studio in a School Association is comprised of two LLCs: Studio in a School NYC and Studio Institute. Studio NYC engages over 30,000 public school students in all five boroughs each year and aims to ensure that New York City public school students receive standards-based, quality instruction in the visual arts regardless of socio-economic status. Studio Institute provides programs and creates new partnerships with communities and cultural organizations nationwide. Studio Institute is currently working with partners in Boston, Cleveland, Memphis, New York, Philadelphia, and Providence.

Responsibilities:

Donor Outreach and Communications

  • Play lead role in creation and submittal of government grant applications and reports; ensure timely updates to all government grant management systems.
  • Write letters, proposals and reports to foundations and individual donors.
  • Manage donor prospect pipeline with research from Communications Associate.
  • Oversee production of two fundraising appeals each year.
  • Generate gratitude letters for senior staff.
  • Work with Communications Associate and Program staff to organize supplemental materials for proposals and reports.

Data and Documentation

  • Update Development Calendar and Raiser’s Edge database with all donor outreach and communications.
  • Process all gifts and grants and ensure timely recording of all donor interactions.
  • Prepare custom financial reports and support Finance staff with revenue documentation.
  • Prepare contribution reports and other materials for Board Development Committee.
  • Keep contact information current and create mailing lists for appeals, events, and newsletters.
  • Maintain electronic and hard copy gift and grant files.

Cultivation and Fundraising Events

  • Support Director of Development and event hosts in planning and logistics.
  • Compile invitee lists and oversee invitations; attend events.
  • Plan and execute event follow-ups.
  • Oversee invoicing and shipping for print sales and maintain print database.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in a Development office with a broad understanding of institutional and individual fundraising practices.
  • Expertise using Raiser’s Edge and Raiser’s Edge NXT; experience with Microsoft Office; strong familiarity with online donation platforms such as Network for Good and e-communication platforms such as Constant Contact.
  • Strong work ethic; highly organized and able to anticipate, plan for, and reach deadlines.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills and a high comfort level working with financial data.
  • Willingness to take the initiative and prioritize and manage multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment.
  • Practiced in handling confidential information and appropriate use of discretion.
  • Knowledge of any of the following preferred but not required: New York City philanthropic community, government arts agencies, arts education, and the visual arts field.

Location

  • As a result of Covid-19, many administrative employees are currently working remotely. In the coming weeks, we will be returning to our office at 75 West End Avenue in a hybrid schedule.
