“Littlest Learners 2022”, spotlights the city’s youngest artists at the Studio in a School NYC Gallery

“As our youngest students develop their capacities to express themselves, visual art is a profound tool for communication. Through the language of shape, color, and line, they invite us into their world and show us what brings them joy and matters most. As a society, it is our responsibility to nurture the vision and voice of our youngest and hold them as sacred.”

–Alison Scott-Williams, President, Studio in a School NYC

Studio in a School NYC (Studio NYC) is pleased to present Littlest Learners 2022, on view from April 19th – May 12th 2022, at our very own gallery located at One East 53rd Street in Manhattan. This annual exhibition celebrates the extraordinary artistic achievements of students from 3-K through second grade.

Young children thrive on opportunities to explore, look, discover, play, and create. Studio NYC’s Early Childhood Programs provide children with tactile artmaking experiences that encourage the development of cognitive, linguistic, sensory, and social skills. Nurtured by Studio NYC’s Artist Instructors, these students produce vivid artworks that express their individuality and imagination, while representing the lessons learned in working with fine arts materials and honing observational skills.

The works on view radiate with optimism, curiosity, and a zest for life. During these times of uncertainty, as our communities seek to establish a “new normal” two years into a global pandemic, the hope and joy reflected in these images becomes all the more resonant. These inspiring works of art invite us to delight in wonders of the world seen through fresh eyes.
