Studio in a School selects nonprofit leader to serve as interim executive

Dr. Vivian Pan, Chair of Studio’s Board of Directors announced today that Margo Amgott will become the Interim Executive Director (IED) for Studio NYC effective June 18, 2019. Dr. Pan said, “Studio in a School is grateful for Chris Wisniewski’s distinguished service and we are excited to hear about his next accomplishments. With his departure, Studio seeks executive leadership to move us into our next phase of arts education serving New York City’s students. Ms. Amgott will provide us with seamless leadership during our executive search process and we are excited to welcome her aboard in early summer”.

Ms. Amgott heads Amgott Interim LLC, a consulting company that provides transitional support and project management to nonprofit organizations. She has served in leadership roles in state and local government, higher education and leading non-profits. She holds a master’s degree from NYU’s Wagner Graduate School of Public Service, and a BA from Barnard College. Most recently, she served as Interim CEO at Hearing Health Foundation, the largest non-profit funder of hearing and balance research in the U.S. and a leader in driving new innovations and treatments for people with hearing loss. She served as interim executive director at Jewish Community Project Downtown, interim associate provost at Hunter College and executive director of the NYU Child Study Center. Earlier in her career, Ms. Amgott directed the City’s Early Intervention Program for children with developmental delays and disabilities at the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, and spent more than 15 years at Columbia University overseeing programs providing student health and campus wellness.

A lifelong New Yorker, Ms. Amgott has demonstrated her ability to quickly understand complex organizations and enable them to thrive during transitional periods.  Ms. Amgott said, “Studio’s programs that develop from a deep collaboration between teachers and artists foster creative expression and can change lives of students. I am delighted to join the team and support the work of our artists and staff bringing the Board of Directors’ vision to life every day.”

Led by Agnes Gund, Studio in a School’s founder, member of the Board and chair emerita, a search process has commenced to identify the next permanent executive director of Studio NYC.
