Studio in a School is pleased to present Studio in the Community: Creatively Queens, an exhibition celebrating the artistic achievements of Queensbased students participating in our visual arts education programs. Studio engages children and teens from preschool through 12th-grade at New York City public schools and community-based organizations in all five boroughs. Working with Studio artist instructors, students observe, imagine, and interpret the people, places, and things that make up their lives.

The artworks on view were created during the 2022-2023 school year and represent a wide range of media including painting, drawing, collage, and sculpture. These works highlight students’ development of skills and capacities as reflected in their artistic choices. Beyond the artworks included here, this exhibition honors the effort, learning, growth, and creativity of every child who participates in Studio’s programs.

We thank the following schools and early childhood centers for their partnership and participation in this exhibition:

P.S. 2, P.S. 4, P.S. 45, P.S. 49, P.S. 148, P.S. 212, P.S. 361, Community Parents Head Start, Goldie Maple Academy, Flushing High School, Msgr. Andrew Landi ECDC – Catholic Charities Queens, Queens High School for Language Studies, and The Scholars’ Academy.

We also thank our artist instructors for their ongoing hard work and dedication. Lastly, with much gratitude, we thank the Queens Central Library for generously hosting this exhibition – we salute your commitment to the arts!
