As our youngest students develop their capacities to express themselves, visual art is a profound tool for communication. Through the language of shape, color, and line, they invite us into their world and show us what matters most and brings them joy. As a society, it is our responsibility to nurture the vision and voice of our youngest and hold them as sacred.” –Alison Scott-Williams, President, Studio in a School NYC
Studio in a School NYC (Studio) is pleased to present Littlest Learners 2024, an annual exhibition celebrating the artistic achievements and creativity of students in early childhood. This year’s exhibition features artwork from children as young as three years old through the second grade. Studio engages children in the visual arts through programs in New York City public schools and community-based organizations throughout the five boroughs.
Young children thrive on opportunities to explore, look, discover, play, and create. Studio’s Early Childhood Programs provide children with hands-on artmaking experiences that encourage the development of cognitive, linguistic, sensory, and social and emotional skills. Studio’s Artist Instructors lead process-oriented lessons that provide students with opportunities to explore a wide range of art materials. The works on view radiate with optimism, curiosity, and a zest for life. These inspiring works of art invite us to delight in wonders of the world seen through the children’s eyes.
