Studio in a School NYC is pleased to present Vision and Voice: Middle School Artworks from Studio in a School NYC, an exhibition celebrating the artistic achievements of students participating in our visual arts education programs.
Middle school (grades 6-8) is a pivotal time, as the transition from childhood to adolescence ushers in significant cognitive, physical, and emotional changes. This is a period of personal awakening, where young people begin to form a deeper understanding of themselves and the world around them. This is visible in their artwork through their increased mastery of skills, and ability to express experiences and thoughts on increasingly personal terms.
Featuring over 25 outstanding artworks, this exhibition highlights the exploration, learning, and making that flourished during the 2023–2024 school year. The featured artists experimented with a range of artistic techniques, including collage, drawing, painting, and printmaking. With a strong focus on observational skills, students explored a variety of open-ended themes including identity, place, fantasy, and culture. Not only does this exhibition celebrate the artworks on view, but it also recognizes the hard work, growth, and creativity of every student who participated in Studio’s programs last year.
Studio in a School NYC would like to thank the Brooklyn Public Library, Washington Irving Branch for hosting this exhibition, and the Bernhill Fund for their generous sponsorship.
