Availability: July 8 – August 2, 2024, 7 hours per day. There will be additional hours for setup for the week of 7/1 (TBD)

Pay Rate: $20 per hour

About Studio in a School Association

Studio in a School Association is comprised of two LLCs Studio NYC and Studio Institute. Studio NYC engages over 30,000 public school students in all five boroughs each year and aims to ensure that New York City public school students receive standards-based, quality instruction in the visual arts regardless of socio-economic status. Studio Institute provides programs and creates new partnerships with communities and cultural organizations nationwide. Studio Institute is currently working with partners in Boston, Baltimore, Chicago, Cleveland, Memphis, Newark, New York, Philadelphia, and Providence.

About Summer Arts Institute

The Summer Arts Institute (SAI) is a tuition-free, month-long summer arts intensive program, serving NYC public school students entering grades 8 through 12. The program increases access to advanced arts training to prepare students for college and career success in the arts. Now in its 21st year, SAI provides about 400 students with the opportunity to study dance, theater, vocal music, instrumental music, visual art, or film. This summer, Studio NYC will partner with the NYC DOE to provide visual arts instruction for middle and high school students.

Summer Arts Institute Interns will assist and support Studio NYC Artist Instructors throughout the program.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide teaching assistance to Studio NYC Artist Instructors.
  • Mentor student participants.
  • Prepare and maintain supplies.
  • Classroom setup before the program starts and breakdown on the final day.
  • Attend planning meetings before the program starts.
  • Assist with setup and breakdown of the final exhibition of student work.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Additional Requirements:

  • Current Graduate or Undergraduate student in Art Education or a relevant field.
  • Commitment to the mission of Studio NYC.
  • NYC Department of Education Fingerprint and Background Check Clearance upon employment.
