Studio NYC is honored to partner with The Fine Art Program and Collection at Montefiore Einstein to present Studios in the Bronx 2022: Artwork from Studio in a School NYC. On view at The Gallery of ARTful Medicine at Montefiore’s Hutchinson campus, this exhibition of vibrant artworks created by children and teens living and learning in the Bronx. During the 2021-2022 school year, the young artists in this exhibition participated in Studio in a School’s visual arts programs, which transformed public school classrooms into thriving art studios. Including paintings, sculptures, drawings, and collages, the art on display demonstrates a wide range of media and subjects explored by students. Working with Studio artist instructors, students observe, imagine, and interpret the people, places, and things that make up their lives.
Studios in the Bronx 2022 highlights Studio’s deep commitment to providing high-quality studio art programming to young people, schools, and communities in the Bronx. Studio has been working with Bronx schools since its founding in 1977. This exhibition not only celebrates the artworks on display but also celebrates the Bronx as a whole and both Montefiore Einstein and Studio’s place in the borough.
Alison Scott-Williams, President, Studio in a School NYC, shares, “Studio in a School NYC is honored to mount our third exhibition at the Gallery of ARTful Medicine. We couldn’t think of a more perfect setting to celebrate 45 years of thriving partnerships with Bronx-based communities, schools, and early childhood education centers. We are thrilled that the exceptional artworks on view, created by children and teens in our programs, will bring beauty, comfort, and inspiration to Montefiore’s patients and staff.”
Jodi Moise, Director of The Fine Art Program and Collection at Montefiore Einstein, worked closely with Studio to curate this special exhibition. Moise spoke to art’s role in healing, sharing, “Art is a medium that allows for anyone to express themselves. Through creativity and imagination, it is evident that these are gifted students, and their work has helped to humanize the patient experience. As the connection between imaginative works of art and healing becomes more recognized, our understanding of art’s restorative power will continue to grow.”
