Studio in the Community: Creatively Queens

Studio in a School NYC is pleased to present Studio in the Community: Creatively Queens, an exhibition celebrating the artistic achievements of Queens-based students participating in our visual arts education programs. Studio engages children and teens from preschool through 12th grade at New York City public schools and community-based organizations in all five boroughs. Working with Studio artist instructors, students observe, imagine, and interpret the people, places, and things that make up their lives.

This exhibition was initially displayed in the fall of 2023 at the Central Library branch of the Queens Public Library and features artworks created during the 2022-2023 school year. For this iteration, we have added five artworks from Studio’s archives. These pieces, made by Queens-based students between 1989 and 2005, honor our long-standing commitment to the students and communities of Queens. The artworks on view represent a broad range of media, including painting, drawing, collage. Beyond the artworks included here, this exhibition honors the effort, learning, growth, and creativity of every child participating in Studio’s programs.

We thank the following schools and early childhood centers for their partnership and participation in this exhibition:

P.S. 2, P.S. 4, P.S. 45, P.S. 49, P.S. 148, P.S. 212, P.S. 361, Community Parents Head Start, Goldie Maple Academy, and Msgr. Andrew Landi ECDC – Catholic Charities Queens

Lastly, we thank our artist instructors for their hard work, dedication, and commitment to the arts.
