Studio in a School NYC is pleased to present Studio in the Community: Artworks from PS 152X, an exhibition celebrating the artistic achievements of local students participating in our visual arts education programs. Studio engages children and teens from preschool through 12th grade at New York City public schools and community-based organizations in all five boroughs. Working with Studio artist instructors in collaboration with their teachers, students observe, imagine, and interpret the people, places, and things that make up their lives.
The artworks on view were created by students in first through fifth grade. These young artists experimented with a range of artistic techniques, including drawing, painting, printmaking and sculpture. In each unit of study, they learned foundational art skills and explored open-ended themes such as portraiture, landscape, still life, fantasy creatures, and life in the sea.
These artworks represent the exploration, learning, and making that flourished in PS 152X during the 2022–23 school year. Not only does this exhibition celebrate the artworks on view, but it also recognizes the hard work, growth, and creativity of every child who participated in Studio’s programs last year.
We would like to thank Principal Christine Baez and Studio Artist Instructors Kathy Creutzburg and Ella Mahoney for supporting the students as they created these exceptional artworks. With much gratitude, we thank the Clason’s Point Branch of The New York Public Library for generously hosting this exhibition. We extend a special thank you to the School Support and Outreach team from NYPL’s Center for Educators and Schools, an initiative devoted to ensuring school communities can make the most of the world-renowned resources of the Library.
